Dog Owners of the Golden State (“DOGS”) is a program of The United States Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Others (“USSPCO”), a shelterless SPCA incorporated in California by a group of cat and dog fanciers in 2010. USSPCO is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
DOGS is proud to be recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) as a State Federation for California. Our partnership with AKC helps us to more effectively educate the public and advocate for the rights of responsible dog owners.
Dog Owners of the Golden State (“DOGS”), part of USSPCO, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is formed to educate the public regarding responsible dog ownership through charitable, scientific, and educational activities.
DOGS conducts and supports various activities that promote the human-canine bond, including responsible dog ownership education campaigns, publicizing scientific studies about canine health and welfare, supporting sheltering and rescue groups, providing assistance to those affected by emergency situations, and working with legislators when dog ownership rights are threatened.
DOGS supporters include California's most accomplished owners, breeders, exhibitors, handlers, trainers, and all-around enthusiastic lovers of dogs!
Our panel of Directors consists entirely of unpaid volunteers with many years collectively spent in service to their respective chosen breeds, as well as in service to various animal welfare organizations.
